Harvesting

A method of harvesting that encourages an un-even aged stand, by selectively removing single trees or groups of trees that are pre-dominantly over mature or contain no commercial value. The resulting stand creates openings that are suited for the regeneration of shade tolerant, long-living species. This method of harvesting allows for a continued, sustainable harvest every 10-20 years by maintaining several age classes at every harvest cycle.

Horse Logging offers and alternative to mechanized extraction methods and reduces site disturbances like soil compaction and rutting. New Wave Forestry Ltd. employs a horse crew as much as possible to support our passion for low-impact forestry operations.
